The Hype, Hysteria, Hyperbole of
Critical Infrastructure Protection
Hosted by Mark Weatherford, Chief Cybersecurity Strategist at VArmour and Indegy Advisory Board Member &

When it comes to critical infrastructure protection, there’s no shortage of cyber fear-mongering. Some of is warranted, while a fair amount is exaggeration and vendor market-speak. How much of the cyber talk around infrastructure attacks is hype, hysteria and hyperbole? Will nations use cyber weapons in the next war and what are the possible impacts? Could they be as devastating as some experts predict?
Cause for concern is understandable, especially after recent intrusion attempts into North American and European manufacturing and energy companies (a.k.a. Dragonfly 2.0). Other incidents like the 2016 CRASHOVERIDE attack on the Ukrainian power grid and the hack into the industrial control system of the Bowman Avenue Dam in NY highlight the gaps in security and our understanding of critical infrastructure cyber-physical protection.
